WINDSOR, Calif. (AP) - Sonoma County authorities say police fatally shot a 48-year-old man after he allegedly stabbed his son's mother and charged officers with a knife in Windsor.
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports Urbano Moreno Morales was killed Saturday morning at the Windsor Town Green.
Police say officers confronted Moreno after he allegedly stabbed a 60-year-old woman in front of a coffee shop. When they ordered him to drop his knife, the suspect began stabbing himself. He then charged at the officers, prompting them to open fire.
Police say the stabbing victim suffered major injuries, but she's expected to survive. She and Moreno previously had romantic relationship and were parents of a grown son.
The Sonoma County District Attorney's office and Santa Rosa Police Department are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
