TRUCKEE, CA -- For nine months, Daniel and Megan had been planning the perfect wedding, but the closure of the federal government made their plans useless.

"We had the ideal location at a national forest, planning it for months, really excited and the day before coming up here we got the call it was being closed," Daniel Klein of Sonoma said.

"The day we flew out, we got the call the reservations have all been cancelled," Heather Klein, Daniel's mother and a resident of the Chicago area, said.

The couple ended up at Martis Creek Lake near Truckee.

"We decided to just pack up the trailer and just come up anyway and figure it out when we got here," Daniel said.

Daniel and his soon-to-be wife were trying to figure out how the smaller venue will accommodate all the guests for the wedding.

"It'll be fine I think, we have so many good friends," Megan said.

However, the couple now must tie the knot before their backup location is also closed. The Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento district said all campers must leave Martis Creek Lake by Sunday afternoon. A spokesperson said it's one of several parks being closed now that excess funds that were being used during the federal government shutdown are about to run out. The spokesperson said essential security and maintenance of dams, including one at Martis Creek Lake, will continue, but other workers will be furloughed.

Daniel said he hopes to get married the day before the campsite must close.

"They were nice enough to keep it open for one more day so that we could have our wedding," he said.

While state parks remain operational, state officials said the campgrounds are filling up fast as many are forced to make alternate plans.

"It's really frustrating to see a government that doesn't plan ahead, and doesn't pay ahead, and doesn't do what you're paying them to do," Daniel said.
