VENTURA, Calif. (AP) - A Ventura woman accused of drowning her 8-year-old daughter two years ago has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder by reason of insanity.
Wearing a jail jumpsuit with her arms and legs shackled, 27-year-old Blair Stockdill entered her plea Friday in Ventura County Superior Court.
Prosecutor Chrystina Jenson told the Ventura County Star that Stockdill will likely be sentenced to 25 years to life but will serve her time inside a locked state mental facility.
Stockdill, who has a history of mental illness, is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 9.
Alaina Stockdill was found dead in September 2010 in the apartment she shared with her mother. Jenson said the girl was lying on her side in an empty bathtub with her head on a small pillow, and her body was in a state of decomposition.
