LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police say a suspected drunk driver triggered a chain-reaction crash that killed one person and injured three others when one of the cars involved careened onto a sidewalk.
The accident occurred just before midnight Saturday when a 1991 Ford Mustang collided with a BMW at a Los Angeles intersection.
Officer Robert Kim says the crash sent the BMW into a third car that careened onto the sidewalk and hit four people.
One of the pedestrians was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three were hospitalized in critical condition.
Kim says the Mustang's driver ran from the scene but was arrested nearby. He was booked for investigation of manslaughter and driving under the influence.
Police did not release the names of the driver or the victims.
