VALLEJO, Calif. (AP) - A Vallejo police officer has fatally shot a man suspected of gunning down his wife after he pointed a handgun at the officer.
Lt. Lee Horton said the officer confronted 57-year-old Mohammed Naas Saturday after several witnesses called 911 to report that a man had shot a woman in an alley.
Horton said the officer saw Naas stand near the woman, who was lying on the ground, and as he got closer the man pointed a gun at him. He said the officer fire at him in self-defense.
Naas was pronounced dead at a hospital. The officer was not injured.
His wife was identified as 49-year-old Nadia Duwebi.
The circumstances surrounding her death were under investigation. Police said the pair were owners of a nearby computer store.
