UC Davis Researcher Hurt in Explosion Arrested

DAVIS, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a UC Davis researcher who was injured in an explosion at a campus apartment Thursday has been arrested.

UC Davis police say David Snyder was arrested Saturday on suspicion of possessing an explosive, possessing materials with the intent to make a destructive device and possessing firearms on campus.

The 32-year-old Snyder suffered hand injuries in the 1 a.m. blast, which caused only minor damage to his apartment, but forced the evacuation of about 100 people.

After the blast teams from the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and bomb squads from several local agencies spent 20 hours removing potentially hazardous chemicals from the apartment.

Snyder is still being treated at a hospital for his injuries. Police say once he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into Yolo County jail.
