SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Two men are facing life in prison without parole after a Sacramento County jury convicted them of first-degree murder in the killings of a man and his 7-month-old son outside a drug house.
The Sacramento Bee reports that jurors returned guilty verdicts on Tuesday against 29-year-old Donald Ortez-Lucero and 30-year-old Christopher Strong.
Authorities say the men were about to rob the Sacramento drug house when 21-year-old Sean Aquitania pulled up with his son in the backseat to visit a friend.
Ortez-Lucero's handgun allegedly discharged while he was pistol-whipping Aquitania. The boy was shot in the head and died.
Authorities say Aquitania was shot and killed when he ran into the house and attacked the gunmen after determining his son was dead.
The two men are scheduled to be sentenced in May.
