SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A California Department of Transportation employee has been killed on a freeway while on his way to a workers memorial ceremony in Sacramento.
The Sacramento Bee reports 51-year-old Dean Patton of Grass Valley was traveling with three other employees on motorcycles Thursday when he was struck by a driver on Highway 99. He died at the scene.
A 73-year-old woman driving the vehicle that struck Patton was not injured. Investigators say neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been factors in the crash.
Patton had spent most of his career with Caltrans.
