DENAIR, Calif. (AP) - Rail authorities are working to repair damage on Amtrak's popular San Joaquin route after a freight train derailed in the Central California town of Denair.
Passenger service has been disrupted between Modesto and Merced since the Sunday afternoon accident. Passengers are being bussed one stop between Modesto and Merced.
Ten freight cars went off the track and crashed into a self-storage facility. No injuries were reported.
The Modesto Bee reports workers at the site of the derailment are preparing rail siding that would allow trains using the busy route to go around the damaged track and cars.
