SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a tree fell onto a Northern California road and crushed a car, killing the driver and injuring the passenger.
Citrus Heights police spokesman Bryan Fritsch says the tree in the center median appears to have split down the middle Saturday, falling onto northbound and southbound lanes of Sunrise Boulevard.
The name of the driver killed in the accident was not immediately released. A passenger in the sedan was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
The Sacramento Bee reports a minivan rolled over during the accident, though no other injuries were reported.
The cause of the tree collapse has not been determined.
