VACAVILLE, Calif. (AP) - The California Highway Patrol officer gunned down during a traffic stop on a San Francisco Bay area freeway is being remembered for his friendly personality and unique sense of humor.

Thousands of friends, family, colleagues and fellow officers gathered at a funeral service for Kenyon Youngstrom on Thursday at a Vacaville church.

Among those who spoke was Youngstrom's 17-year-old son, Alex, who said his father would playfully tackle him by surprise at home and always forgave him when he did something wrong.

The 37-year-old Youngstrom was shot during a Sept. 4. traffic stop on Interstate 680 in Alamo.

He died in a hospital the next day after being taken off life support. He is survived by his wife and four children.

The man police say shot Youngstrom, 36-year-old Christopher Boone Lacy, was shot and killed by another CHP officer.
