FRENCH CAMP, Calif. (AP) - San Joaquin County authorities are investigating the death of a 16-year-old boy who was found unresponsive after escaping from a juvenile detention facility near Stockton.
Officials say Tracy Brown Jr. was found in a field near the Camp Peterson facility in French Camp on Thursday night. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say Brown was one of two boys who escaped from the juvenile center. Officials are still searching for the other escapee.
Officials say Brown did not have any obvious signs of trauma. They're awaiting autopsy and toxicology test results to determine the cause of death.
Chief Probation Officer Stephanie James says the county will provide counseling and other services to juveniles who knew Brown.
