RAMONA, Calif. (AP) - Officials say a 16-year-old boy in San Diego County has died after being hit in the chest with a softball during his high school physical education class.
Ramona High School Principal Tony Newman tells U-T San Diego (http://bit.ly/10Uf2pR ) that sophomore Taylor Dorman collapsed at about 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, some 20 minutes after a student hit the ball and hit his chest.
Superintendent Bob Graeff says the coach called 911. Paramedics arrived quickly, and were able to stabilize Dorman before he was flown to a hospital.
Graeff says Dorman died a few hours later.
Before he collapsed, officials say Dorman continued to play and even made a joke to the student who hit the ball.
