SAN DIEGO (AP) - The 18-year-old girlfriend of a 40-year-old former firefighter shot and killed in a gunfight with San Diego police has been charged with carjacking, robbery and criminal threats in an alleged crime spree that preceded it.
City News Service reports Cindy Altamirano Garcia pleaded not guilty to the felonies Friday.
UT San Diego says a judge called Garcia an "extreme public safety" threat and made her bail $1 million.
Prosecutors say Philip Hernandez and Garcia, starting early Monday, shot and wounded one man, stole a car at gunpoint and robbed an off-duty police officer, leaving him with a head wound from a bullet graze or pistol-whipping.
Police say on Wednesday Hernandez exited a van they'd been tailing and fired on them, and officers shot and killed him. Garcia, also armed, surrendered.
