MENIFEE, Calif. (AP) - A person close to the investigation into the killing of an 11-year-old California boy says his teenage half brother is the suspect.
The person who was not authorized to speak publicly told The Associated Press Thursday that charges could be filed as soon as Friday against Terry Dewayne Smith Jr.'s 16-year-old half brother whose name hasn't been released.
Police found a body matching Terry's description Wednesday in a shallow grave behind the boy's house.
The autistic child was reported missing Sunday and authorities have said the half brother was the last person to see the boy alive.
Hundreds of volunteers searched for Terry in 100-degree heat for several days.
Menifee is a semirural community of horse ranches, farms and growing subdivisions 80 miles southwest of Los Angeles.
