CAMPO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities now say a wildfire in San Diego County has destroyed twenty homes and damaged two others as it crawls through the rural backcountry.

State fire Capt. Mike Mohler says damage assessment crews made that estimate Monday morning along the path of a two-thousand-acre fire. Another eighty homes in rural southeastern communities of the Campo area remain under mandatory evacuation orders.

The fire that erupted Sunday in hilly brushlands has shown little movement, but Mohler says winds are picking up and could reach twenty-five mph in the afternoon.

Farther north, a one-hundred-fifty-acre wildfire in Riverside County is about ninety percent contained. It has been reduced mainly to embers but still poses a potential threat to as many as two-hundred homes in the Murrieta area.
