GARDENA, Calif. (AP) - It was a sale fit for a princess on Saturday as a Southern California man who's collected 55,000 dresses and ballgowns put some up for sale in a flourish of taffeta and silk.
Paul Brockmann of Lomita fell in love with the beauty of the dresses as a poor boy in Germany and over 56 years he pieced together a collection.
Brockmann says he was inspired by watching his wife, Margot, in different dresses when the couple went ballroom dancing.
But he's now 78 and his daughter convinced him to put the dresses up for sale. A friend says several dozen sold for up to $200 at a Gardena warehouse and there'll be more sales.
Brockmann says he's happy to see the dresses find a new life.
