BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say they're looking for a man who may be a transient who kidnapped and raped a 6-year-old girl. KBAK/KBFX News reports the child was playing in her yard Tuesday afternoon when the man forced her to an isolated area and sexually assaulted her before fleeing on foot.
Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt called the suspect dangerous because of the brazen nature of the crime happening in broad daylight. Pruitt said the girl was injured in the incident and has been taken to a hospital for treatment. Investigators believe the suspect goes by the name of Eric or Eddie, and is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s who is about 5'10" and weighs 250 pounds. Neighbors reported seeing him loitering nearby before the assault.
