San Francisco's new police chief is considering equipping officers with video cameras to record arrests.
Greg Suhr confirmed the possibility on Tuesday, the same day
that the city's public defender released video footage of two
officers walking into a residential hotel empty-handed on Feb. 25
and leaving with bags. Jeff Adachi says the bags weren't booked
into evidence.
Police are investigating the allegations.
The San Francisco Examiner reports that the department will be
looking at several different models of personal cameras. The idea
is for officers to have them on in situations that require a search
warrant or a suspect's consent.
Suhr said the cameras are supported by the Police Officers
Association. They would require approval from the Police
Commission.
