SAN DIEGO (AP) - San Diego Mayor Bob Filner is challenging a recall effort by touting city progress during his term - an indication that he has no intention of resigning.
Filner's statement makes no mention of the reason some people want to boot him from office - allegations by more than a dozen women that he made unwanted advances such as inappropriate statements or groping.
Instead, Filner's written response to the recall effort says he's committed to moving forward on economic, environmental and job-creating projects.
Recall organizers said Tuesday they had obtained Filner's response and would publish it in the newspaper as required by law.
