SAN BRUNO, Calif. (AP) - Survivors of a deadly pipeline explosion in a San Francisco Bay area suburb are planning a memorial to commemorate the two years that have passed since the blast and pressing for stronger pipeline safety reforms.

On Tuesday, neighbors gathered at the San Bruno blast site with Assemblyman Jerry Hill, a Democrat who represents the area, and is sponsoring several pieces of legislation aimed at upgrading pipeline oversight.

Eight people died, dozens were injured and 38 homes overlooking the bay were destroyed in the Sept. 9, 2010 explosion.

The California Public Utilities Commission has yet to fine Pacific Gas & Electric Co. for what federal regulators called a litany of failures leading up to the blast.

The community remembrance event will be held Sunday afternoon in San Bruno City Park.
