SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - San Francisco police plan to provide an update on the investigation into the high-profile disappearance of 10-year-old Kevin Collins in 1984.
The department has scheduled a news conference with Police Chief Greg Suhr at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police searched a home near San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district last week in connection with the decades-old cold case although they did not say what prompted them to renew their investigation.
A law enforcement official has told The Associated Press a person of interest in the disappearance lived in the house at the time Kevin disappeared. That person has since died.
Police said a preliminary review of bones discovered at the home indicated they were from an animal.
Kevin's disappearance garnered national attention. His photo appeared on milk cartons and the cover of Newsweek.
