RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - A fugitive wanted in connection with the 2008 stabbing of a patron at a Riverside County casino has been arrested in Mexico and extradited to the United States.
The Riverside County district attorney's office said Friday that 35-year-old Heriberto Leyva Jr. was arraigned on a count of attempted murder and pleaded not guilty.
Leyva was arrested last week in the Mexican city of Mexicali by Mexican state police.
Leyva is charged with stabbing a man multiple times in November 2008 in the parking lot of the Soboba Casino. The victim later told investigators Leyva had been angry because his former girlfriend was at the casino with him.
The district attorney's office says the stabbing was captured by the casino's surveillance video camera.
