RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - A Riverside couple is suing police for $350,000 for shooting their pit bull, named Brad Pitt.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise says Lindsey Gonzalez-Rivera and Luis Rivera contend that the killing was unwarranted.
Police were deployed to the couple's neighborhood last August to serve an arrest warrant on a murder suspect who lived two doors away.
Police say one officer who was stationed at the Riveras' backyard shot Brad Pitt after the dog surprised, cornered and attacked him.
However, the Riveras claim the officer shot the pit bull through a gate and that it wasn't a danger. They sued late last month.
City Attorney Greg Priamos says the city will defend itself against the suit.
