SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A health care advocacy organization says nearly 3 million Californians will become eligible next year for federal assistance to pay for health insurance.

The report released Tuesday by Families USA examined how tax credits will help low- and middle-income residents pay for private health coverage.

It says people with annual incomes between $47,100 and $94,200 for a family of four will make up half of the Californians eligible for tax credits.

About 50 percent of eligible Californians will be Hispanic, about 30 percent will be white and another 5 percent will be black.

Under the federal law taking effect next year, those with the lowest incomes will receive the largest tax credits.

Based in Washington, D.C., Families USA promotes coverage benefits under the Affordable Care Act.
