REDDING, Calif. (AP) - Redding police have arrested a 28-year-old man in the shooting death of his friend, even though the suspect wasn't the shooter.
The Redding Record-Searchlight reports that William Roy Thietje was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and felony assault early Sunday after his friend was fatally shot in Shasta Lake.
Shasta County sheriff's officials say incident began when Thietje allegedly rammed his van into another parked car in a fit a rage while looking for an ex-girlfriend.
Officials say a nearby homeowner shot at the van to stop Thietje from running over a pedestrian. The bullet struck and killed Thietje's friend who was sitting in the van's passenger's seat.
Sheriff's officials say they believe Thietje's actions caused his friend's death, and the homeowner saved the pedestrian's life.
