MURRIETA, Calif. (AP) - Court records say a Murrieta man charged with killing his 71-year-old grandmother had a body in the trunk of her car with a belt wrapped around the neck.
The Press-Enterprise reported Thursday that court papers show 21-year-old Kyle McLean was seen on a surveillance camera buying machetes, gloves, bleach and beer at a Wal-Mart.
McLean has pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder in the death of Catherine Sutton.
Investigators say 18-year-old Neil Erickson said McLean showed him a dead body in the trunk of his grandmother's car and said he had killed his grandmother.
Erickson pleaded not guilty to being an accessory in the crime.
Catherine Sutton was reported missing Sunday night and Sutton's daughter told police she had not spoken to her mother for several days.
