RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (AP) - Rancho Cordova police officers have shot and killed a man during a struggle inside a home.
Sacramento County Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos said a relative called police to report the man was acting strange. He said that when the officers tried to detain the man for a psychological evaluation, he became combative and assaulted them.
Ramos said the officers weren't able to subdue the unarmed man with a stun gun, and at one point he beat one of the officers in the head.
He said the other officer pulled his weapon and fatally shot the man.
The dead man's name was not immediately released.
The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/Y4GmQU) the officer who shot the man has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the shooting investigation.
