SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) Authorities say a northern Los Angeles County apartment that blew up, severely burning a man, was being used as an illegal drug lab. Wednesday's blast occurred at a marijuana grow lab in the Canyon Country unit. Sheriff's Sgt. Daniel Stanley says the blast resulted from a chemical extraction process used to make concentrated cannabis.
Fireworks also were found in the apartment. One man was burned in the blast but his name and condition haven't been released. Another man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating marijuana and manufacturing a controlled substance. The three-unit apartment complex had significant damage and has been red-tagged, meaning residents can't return until it's declared safe.
