SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a suspect who died after what's being described as a violent struggle with Sacramento police officers who were called to a retail store by a clerk who told a 911 dispatcher that she feared for her safety.
Police say the trouble started around 6 p.m. Friday when the clerk at a Metro PCS store called 911 and said the man had walked into the store and was making unintelligible sounds.
When officers arrived they say the suspect became combative, with the struggle becoming so violent that it moved from inside of the store and out onto the sidewalk and parking lot in front of the store.
Police say at least two citizens and a security guard tried to help before more police arrived.
The name of the suspect - described as a man in his 40s - has not been released.
