SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Police say a homeowner in Sacramento shot and killed a man in self-defense after the man refused to leave his yard and became increasingly violent.
The shooting Sunday afternoon remains under investigation. But police say the 50-year-old suspect began acting irrationally in the driveway of the 36-year-old homeowner's home, swinging his cane and breaking and throwing objects.
The homeowner apparently asked the man to leave repeatedly before running inside and grabbing his gun. Police say the man was shot after he picked up a heavy wrought iron stand and appeared set to throw it at the homeowner.
The man later died at a hospital.
Neither the homeowner nor the suspect has been identified.
