FREMONT, Calif. (AP) - Fremont police have shot and killed a man they say confronted them with a knife after tearing up his home.
The San Jose Mercury News says the 53-year-old man was shot Sunday morning by police called to a home by the man's mother. He died at the scene and his name hasn't been released.
Police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques says the woman called 911 to report that her son had thrown household items, tossed furniture out of a window and stabbed a door.
Bosques says officers evacuated the man's mother and brother, who had non-life threatening stab wounds, but couldn't remove his elderly father because the man has a medical condition.
Bosques says officers shot the man, who had a history of erratic behavior, when he confronted them.
