OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Authorities are searching for suspects following a wild shootout that shut down traffic on a freeway in Oakland.
The California Highway Patrol and the Oakland police blocked several lanes on westbound Interstate 580 moments after receiving reports of passengers in two cars firing shots at each other near the Seminary Avenue exit Wednesday night.
Officers found shell casings scattered across the freeway and both cars riddled with bullet holes, but they found no one inside as they believe those involved ran away from the scene.
The CHP says traffic was diverted for about two hours to allow officers to conduct an investigation. All lanes were reopened to traffic shortly before midnight.
The incident remains under investigation.
