SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - Simi Valley police have released the name of a 29-year-old man they say killed his mother, then shot up his normally quiet suburban neighborhood before officers killed him.
Police say Ryan Carnan was shot by officers as he tried to flee on a tractor.
Authorities believe Carnan also set his mother's home on fire.
The Ventura County Star reports police got a call shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday from Carnan's brother. He told them Carnan had called to say he had just killed their mother.
About the same time witnesses were reporting a man firing on bystanders in the same Simi Valley neighborhood.
Police say they confronted Carnan, who was armed with a gun and riding a tractor, as he tried to flee onto a bridle path.
