SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - A Morgan Hill mother accused of using her 10-year-old daughter to shoplift groceries and then abandoning the child when store employees intervened appeared in court Tuesday, but did not enter a plea.

The San Jose Mercury News reports (http://bit.ly/R93NpB ) that during the brief hearing, Marcy Keelin was ordered to return to court on Nov. 13.

The 38-year-old Keelin is charged with a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and a felony charge of commercial burglary. If convicted, she could face up to three years behind bars.

Authorities say during a shopping trip to a Safeway store last month Keelin had her daughter push a shopping cart with about $150 worth of groceries out of the store. When the daughter was stopped by employees, police say Keelin drove off.

Keelin is free on $50,000 bail. She is forbidden from seeing her children, who are staying with her mother.
