SAN DIEGO (AP) - A small plane has made an emergency landing on a San Diego toll road after the engine stopped.
Jim Truitt says he was returning from a business trip to Ensenada and was heading for Brown Field in Otay Mesa Friday when the engine of the Cessna 150 began to sputter.
The 58-year-old pilot told U-T San Diego (http://bit.ly/11sQvMT) that the engine stopped before he could reach the landing strip. He said he saw no cars on State Route 125 in Chula Vista around 11 a.m., so he declared an emergency and landed the plane in the northbound lanes.
Firefighters responded to the scene but were not needed. The plane stopped on the shoulder of the road.
Truitt said he believes the plane's carburetor iced up.
