SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - San Francisco fire officials say a 10-year-old girl has died in a fire that raced through a Treasure Island apartment complex early Saturday.

Officials say when firefighters arrived at the complex around 12:15 a.m. Saturday they found flames roaring out of the two-story building.

Fire Department Deputy Chief of Operations Mark Gonzalez told KTVU-TV that the family of the girl told firefighters that she was trapped inside their second floor apartment.

Gonzalez says firefighters tried to rescue the girl, but could not get to her. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries in the rescue attempt.

The name of the girl has not been released.

The American Red Cross says the fire displaced 22 people, including eleven children.
