MONTEBELLO, Calif. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say ten people have been arrested in connection to six cold case murders and a Montebello gang's drugs and weapons activity.
U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Thom Mrozek says Wednesday's arrests Wednesday were part of a two-year joint investigation that's resulted in federal racketeering charges and state charges against 38 people.
Undercover law enforcement officers infiltrated the Southside Montebello gang, observed about 20 drug deals and seized nearly one pound of methamphetamine. A non-operational, rocket-propelled grenade launcher was also seized.
One of the cold cases involves the fatal shooting of a man and his 12-year-old son at a graduation party in 2008. A jury found a teenager not guilty of the shooting deaths in 2010.
Six people are still being sought.
Federal and local authorities cooperated in the investigation.
