Officer Crashes While Chasing Mini-Bike
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Investigators say a California motorcycle officer was chasing a mini-bike operator for failure to wear a helmet when he crashed into a car, injuring a motorist.
The San Jose Mercury News says there have been questions on whether the chase last week was warranted.
East Palo Alto police Chief Ron Davis said in a Wednesday email that the motorcycle officer was chasing the mini-bike operator with flashing lights and siren on Nov. 5 when he crashed into a Ford Taurus.
The 32-year-old Taurus driver, James Hartley, was hospitalized. The single father is now home with a neck brace from whiplash and back pain.
The incident is still being investigated.
