WOODLAND, Calif. (AP) - A police officer indicted by a grand jury on allegations of sexually assaulting six women while on duty in West Sacramento has pleaded not guilty.
The Sacramento Bee reports that Sergio Alvarez entered his plea to 35 counts including rape, sodomy, oral copulation and kidnapping in Yolo County Superior Court on Thursday.
The 37-year-old Alvarez is accused of assaulting the women after stopping them late at night or early in the morning while on patrol between October 2011 and September 2012.
A five-month investigation began after a woman reported to another officer that she had been sexually assaulted by a uniformed policeman. The probe uncovered five other women making similar claims.
Alvarez is being held on $29.5 million bail following his arrest last week.
He's due back in court on March 22.
