OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Three Oakland police officers have helped deliver a baby inside an SUV.
Police said Officers Charles Stone, Sean Bowling and Jeff Cid were at a gas station near the Oakland Zoo Friday evening when a man ran to them, saying his wife was in labor in the family car.
The officers called for medical aid, but before paramedics could arrive she gave birth to a healthy boy as her 8-year-old son watched from the back seat.
All officers undergo first-aid training and are taught the basics about delivering babies. Fortunately for the mother, Cid was a former registered nurse who took the lead after noticing that her contractions were two minutes apart.
The Oakland Tribune reports the couple named the baby Knowland, after the park that's home to the zoo.
