Northern Calif. Man Charged in Wife's Death

COTTONWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a Northern California man facing a murder charge in the stabbing death of his wife acknowledged killing her to 911 dispatchers.

Fifty-two-year-old Mark Duenas of Cottonwood in Shasta County pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.

He is accused in the May 5 death of his wife, 51-year-old Karen Duenas.

Sheriff's officials say he acknowledged killing her to dispatchers on the day her body was found.

They allege he had been exchanging phone calls and text messages with a woman in another state, and Karen Duenas found out about them.

Mark Duenas' attorney, Ron Powell, told the Record Searchlight of Redding (http://bit.ly/QdGcnr) he has not heard any acknowledgment of the killing by his client on a the tape of the 911 call.
