REDDING, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man has died three days after a chase with police where he ran a truck into a wall and stole a patrol car.

The Shasta County coroner says 33-year-old Steven Motley died Tuesday at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Sacramento after the chase with Redding police.

The coroner says Motley was returned to Redding and an autopsy will be performed Thursday.

Deputies tell the Redding Record-Searchlight Motley fled from an officer Saturday in a pickup that had been reported stolen.

Deputies say Motley ran into a wall with the truck then fled on foot, and the officer ran after him. They say he then stole the officer's cruiser.

Police found him in a backyard and subdued him, but discovered he wasn't breathing and tried to save him.
