OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - The mayor of Oxnard, who is a schoolteacher by day, is the subject of a sheriff's investigation after a mother alleged that he battered her daughter in a classroom dispute.

Oxnard police Chief Jeri Williams tells the Ventura County Star her department received a call last week from the mother who said her daughter had "been battered" by Mayor Tim Flynn in his classroom at Pacifica High School.

Sheriff's Cmdr. Cheryl Wade said Monday an investigation is under way but would give no details until witnesses had been interviewed.

Flynn told the Star he had a disciplinary issue with a student but the school resolved the matter. School district officials say Flynn was removed from the classroom briefly but promptly returned after the principal looked into the incident.
