Missing Sex Offender Apprehended in San Francisco

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a high-risk sex offender who walked away from a Redwood City mental health facility is back in custody.

Sheriff's Lt. Larry Schumaker says Derrick Sanders was taken into custody in San Francisco Saturday morning.

The 34-year-old Sanders was discovered missing from the Cordilleras Mental Health Facility around 4 a.m. Friday.

It's believed Sanders may have left the locked facility by an elevator shaft.

Officials say Sanders is a parolee with a history of violence and sex and weapons offenses.
