CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a missing 64-year-old resident of a closed assisted care facility in Castro Valley has been found safe.
Alameda County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. J.D. Nelson tells The San Francisco Chronicle that Edmund Bascom was found Saturday in the San Jose area.
Bascom had walked out of the Valley Springs Manor on Oct. 25 during a state-ordered closure that left 19 residents with no professional care.
The closure of the facility is now that target of a multi-agency investigation after a manager on Oct. 18 told staff they would no longer be paid. Still, 19 residents remained in the home, being cared for by a janitor and a cook.
Those staffers placed multiple 911 calls 911 for assistance, which led to the residents being transferred to hospitals.
