MARIN, Calif. (AP) - A Marin County woman who plotted with a lover to have her husband killed by hit men in 1991 has died in state prison.

The Marin Independent Journal reports 79-year-old Ann McDonald died Thursday of natural causes at the Central California Women's Facility in Chowchilla, where she was serving a life sentence.

She was convicted of conspiring with Al Braunberger to have her fifth husband, Rich McDonald, killed so they could have his money.

The prosecution said they hired two men to do the deed, and Ann McDonald let them into her home by leaving a sliding glass door open. Her husband, who owned a successful pest control company, was beaten with fireplace tools and strangled.

Braunberger is serving a life sentence in San Diego. He is 87.
