OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say the man wanted in connection with an alleged toddler abduction in Oakland has surrendered and tells investigators the child doesn't exist.
An Amber Alert was issued in the case early Friday morning. Police say the suspect, 56-year-old Kim Tolefree, has denied having a child with the woman he fought with.
The woman apparently told police Tolefree pistol-whipped her and chased her in his truck as she tried to drive away.
He was then accused of taking the child.
Police say they are sorting out the conflicting information and continue to search for Tolefree's vehicle.
