SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A fugitive who escaped arrest after allegedly gunning down a 26-year-old man at a Sikh sports festival in Sacramento County five years ago has been arrested in India.
The Sacramento Bee reports Amandeep Singh Dhami was taken into custody Friday in the Punjab province on suspicion of local charges.
The FBI says he will be extradited to the U.S. to face a murder charge in the August 2008 shooting death of Parmjit Pamma Singh.
Dhami also faces an attempted murder charge in the shooting of another man injured in the spray of gunfire during the Sacramento Sikh Society sports festival.
Dhami's friend, Gurpreet Singh Gosal, was convicted in August of second-degree murder in the shooting. Gosal was sentenced to 35 years to life in prison.
