Man Sues Boy Scouts Over Alleged Abuse

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A Northern California man is suing the regional Boy Scouts council he was involved with as a teenager over sexual abuse he alleges occurred at the hands of his troop leader.

Coast Guard veteran Mark Dietrich filed a lawsuit in Solano County Superior Court on Wednesday alleging that the then-scoutmaster of his Vacaville-based troop frequently molested him between 1978 and 1981.

The suit claims that Boy Scouts officials at the local and regional level knew the scoutmaster had had inappropriate contact with other boys. Deitrich's lawyer, Irwin Zalkin, would not provide details.

Neither the Boy Scouts' Golden Empire Council nor the national organization would comment on the suit, which is the latest in a string of sexual abuse lawsuits brought against the Boy Scouts of America or its affiliates.
